Swfl Mural Fest

Hurricane relief 2023!

Artsemble Underground and Sun Peaks Center have chosen a handful of artists in the SWFL art community to create large mural banners that will be hung on downtown buildings. Mural Fest is a three-weekend event, taking place at three different locations in Fort Myers; The Buddha Live plaza, The Alliance for the Arts Campus, Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center/Downtown Fortmyers.

When you think of some of the most culturally diverse and renowned cities on Earth, they all have at least one thing in common: art.  Each year, non-profit arts and culture organizations alone pump an estimated $60 billion into the national economy.

But more importantly, art impacts us individually… art heals, art helps, and art teaches.  Art can ignite

self-expression and transform us and the way we interact with our community.   Arts. and culture provide inspiration and joy to residents, beautify public spaces, and strengthen the social fabric of our communities.

We want to assure that art remains a significant part of our SWFL community. Our goal is to support our local artists and celebrate what makes our community great.

Hurricane Ian, which is Florida’s deadliest hurricane since 1935, is already estimated to have cost $50 billion in economic disruption. Ian crashed into Florida’s Gulf Coast as a Category-4 storm, bringing catastrophic winds, rains and storm surge to cities in its direct path.  Some of the hardest hit were our deep and varied community of SWFL artists. Many artists were directly impacted by Hurricane Ian with flooding and loss of original artworks.

Starting on Saturday, January 21st, at the Buddha Lounge, artists impacted by the hurricane will create works of art from Hurricane Ian’s debris for a silent auction.  There will be live music, performances, food trucks, and a few surprises.

On Saturday, January 28th, at the Alliance for the Arts, along with the artists painting plain aire, and the silent

auction, there will be a concert given by a Headliner musician (to be announced).

Friday, February 3rd, will be our private closing party at Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center.  This is the start of the biggest annual Art weekend in the Downtown River District; Art Fest, ArtWalk, and now Mural Fest together are expected to bring an attendance of over 200,000 people.   There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony revealing the completed murals, many speakers from our local leaders, the results of the silent auction will be announced, and we will have food and drinks and a live band.  The banners will then be displayed on downtown buildings for the month of February.

There are immediate needs for relief and recovery to help them start rebuilding their lives and their art.

It will take a lot of support from partners like you to achieve our mission. You can help us achieve our goal by becoming an official sponsor of our cause. In doing so, not only will you be helping the SWFL community but will provide much needed relief to our local artists.  To donate online, click here.
